TOP 5 WEEKEND GETAWAYS IN MARYLAND, PART III
Tired of the same old grind? Change up that same old routine and sneak away for the weekend. Our third ranked location from USA Today’s top five Maryland weekend getaways is Annapolis. Not only is Annapolis a big city but it’s the capital of Maryland. If you’re looking for something a little slower pace check out last week’s weekend getaway idea here.
Take a step back in time in Annapolis, Maryland’s oldest incorporated city. Annapolis is home to the United States Naval Academy which was founded in 1845; stop by the Academy’s visitor’s center. Enjoy a walk through historic Annapolis with its cobblestone streets while shopping in small boutiques. Consider lodging at The Maryland Inn, Governor Calvert House or Robert Johnson House, which are the three major historic inns in Annapolis.
Visit the Annapolis Harbor area and eat at the Market House at City Dock, or take in a local pub. Don’t forget your camera you will want to take tons of pictures of all the great historical sites and memorials. The Annapolis World War II memorial and the Maryland State building (pictured above) are a “must see” while in the area. Even though Annapolis is only a quick thirty minutes it’s a great staycation.
