How to Prepare Your Car for Spring

As soon as this white stuff gets out of here (and that can’t happen soon enough) many families plan a spring or summer road trip. Spring is officially only 15 days away…not that we are counting or anything.

But, before you hit the road we want to make sure that your car is up for the challenge.  So, we have put together a list of a few things that you should do to prepare your car for the spring season upon us.

Check Your Battery–  During the winter season your battery works harder than usual so, it can get drained.  Check for signs of a weak battery: dimming headlights or interior lights; power windows that take longer than usual to go up and down.

Check Your Brakes– The snow, sleet, and overall discontent of winter doesn’t just make your morning commute a struggle it also can cause some serious corrosion on your brakes.  Brakes are obviously pretty vital to your safety so, make sure that you look for trouble signs: pulling to one side when you hit the brakes, squeaking or grinding noises and a brake pedal that feels too soft.

Inspect Your Tires- Tires in bad condition can make it difficult to bring your car to a safe stop even if your brakes are in top shape.  Always check the tread depth on all four tires before heading out for a trip.  And don’t forget about your tire pressure.  The proper pressure is almost always listed on the driver’s side door jam.  Proper pressure not only keeps your car safe it can also boost your gas mileage.

Test Your A/C-  The last thing you want to do is get stuck in the car with the kids in a sauna err a hot car.  So, before you head out blast the A/C and make sure that it reaches a comfortable temperature in an appropriate amount of time.  If your worried that it doesn’t seem quite right get it checked out by a technician.

Replace Your Wiper Blades- They play an extremely important role in increasing visibility not only when considering weather conditions, but you never know what kind od debris your windshield can be subject to.  Replace them when cracked, cut, torn, streaking or chattering.
